Setting Up a Physiotherapy Clinic in Uganda: Equipment Checklist

A practical equipment and home-care checklist for new physiotherapy and orthopaedic practices — from plinths to consumables.

A new clinic fails in two ways: it opens with the wrong equipment, or it opens with the right equipment in the wrong layout. MediQuest’s Recovery & Home Care Systems service helps families and clinics plan the equipment that recovery actually needs. This is the short checklist we start with.

Core treatment space

  • Treatment plinths with enough clearance for a therapist on both sides
  • A walking / parallel-bar area with a firm floor and a chair at each end
  • Hot and cold therapy, electrotherapy as scoped, and a locked consumables cupboard
  • A small orthotics cupboard: collars, slings, elastic supports for immediate fitting

Do not forget the unglamorous items

Goniometers, tape measures, gait belts, pillows (cervical, lumbar, knee-rest), and a reliable stock of crepe, POP, and tape. Patients notice a clinic that has to send them across town for a sling.

For a full departmental setup we assess floor plan, patient flow, and procurement in one visit. MPPS partners receive clinic-supply discounts from the first order.
